SL Destinations: New Toulouse Bayou

Bonjou! Konmen to yê? (Hello!, How are you?)

Today we bring you a bit of early 20th Century Americana.

A wee bit of Louisiana flava called New Toulouse. This region contains 2 sims, One is Urban and the other is Rural.

 

The city is modeled after New Orleans, and is bustling with Voudoun shops, Jazz clubs, Processions, Art & Cuisine, just
like the real thing.
The country or Bayou is where We settled, located on the 2nd sim, and we literally haunted it for days lol.

 

We really did enjoy the feel of this Swamp settlement.

 

Natural beauty filled this entire sim., From the birds & fauna native to this landscape, to the reptilian mascots that
occupied the waters.

The time period they emulate here is b’twix 1920-1925’s rural, When it was pure and simple country living.
Although Louisiana is very diverse, southern LA had 2 larger groups, Cajun & Creole.
Cajuns are French colonists who developed their own distinct lifestyle in the swamps and surrounding areas of South
Louisiana. Intermixed in these colonies were the Creole. Creole can mean anything from individuals born in New Orleans with
French and Spanish ancestry to those who descended from African/Caribbean/French/Spanish heritage.

It was a pleasant surprise to see them keep it authentic to the way folks would’ve Built Homes & Businesses, or decorated
their yards and houses.

 

We recognized African influences in the decor, no doubt brought by the freedom folks as they settled in communities.
I was tickled over The bottle tree that I have known through my own Geechi/Gullah heritage.

This custom originated in Africa., People believed that bad spirits could be captured in a bottle.
Legend had it that empty glass bottles placed outside, but near, the home could capture roving (usually evil) spirits at
night, and the spirit would be destroyed the next day in the sunshine. One could then cork the bottles and throw them into
the river to wash away the evil spirits.

Of course as time goes on meanings fade.
Not all Folk still believe in such things but the gesture of displaying old customs reminds us of whence we came.

Alot of  decor also showed signs of Christianity or Voudoun beliefs

 

This sim is very fascinating, do check out the library and other informative areas to learn more.

SL Destinations: Discovery in Pangea

Hello One & All,
Welcome to another lead of some Interactive fun!

 Revan and I just came from the Wizardly Fair and dropped down somewhere magical.

Introducing “Discovery”, a SL Action Park made in the likeness of the world famous Disney Theme Parks.

 

There are 6 Rides here but don’t let the number fool you. They are HUGE on fun.

 

Having been to the World Famous Parks Ourselves, Revan and I agree this is basically “SPOT ON”.
You feel totally immersed here as you reminisce of great times spent at Disney.

 

The creators have done a phenomenal job replicating some of the well known venues and rides.
The detailing is madness!

 

Once things have wound down head over to Cafe Hyperion where you can grab something in the cafeteria.

 

Sit at the tables and chow down while you giggle at the screaming patrons (Your family & or Friends) on the Space Mountain
Ride. They’ve built a peek-a-boo window to keep you entertained. LOL

 

Check out the Big Screen in the Theater section and catch what’s playing.
They even have Free Soda built into the chairs too.  😉

This place is whimsical, clever, vivid, and dressed for the season.
All this makes a nice treat for the eyes. Choose a dark WL and really see the colors pop!

 

We highly recommend you bring a group or come with a date.
There is something for everyone.

 

Be sure to tell Everyone about this place.

SL Destinations: Picklefish Islands

Hello Explorers,

Revan Here :-), Glad you can join us for another Adventure!

The Focus today is on The Pickle Islands,… Full of Mystery and Intrigue.

There are 4 in number and named Picklesong, Picklemoon, Picklefish and Pickleflower.
These are all tied into a flowing theme of Fantasy, Nature, Horror and Fairytale.

There are many unusual places to see Here. Some Perplexing, Some are Whimsical.

 

On any of the 4, You can discover Underground Caverns, Haunted Mansions, Gothic Castles, and Enchanted Forests.

Following the trail on the Picklesong Island, The Wife and I came upon a ruined theatre full of ghouls sitting in the audience.

We had a bit of fun dancing burlesque for them and having a laugh.

I’d like to point out-Beware, Picklesong has some savory characters there, slightly Adult themed and sinister, But The other Islands are Mild Fable like & Mythical.

It would take a full week to find all the secrets these sims hold.
So be sure to wear your best exploring gear and pack provisions for the duration lol.

SL Destinations: Historic Replicas by ASU

Welcome All!
Revan here :), The Wife and I were feeling a bit Rockabilly Retro today, So I searched for a sim to fit our mood.
I came across a true Gem., The Arkansas State University had 2 sims that fit our theme perfectly.

What a VAST destination! We got more than we expected. There are actually 6 sims Total owned by ASU., 2 campus, including an
orientaion area with Art Gallery, 3 historic recreations by Painter Meriman and 1 set aside as a Leisure sim with Beach.

The Regions have MANY points of interest, Too numerous to cover all in one post,

But We will highlight the spots we found enjoyable.

Here you will find unusual Art Exhibits and Interactive galleries.
Be sure to Transport to each area in the Art Building via the large banner flags in front.
We had a great time on the turtle ride touring a giant Aquarium!

John L. Handcox (1904-1992); was a Great Depression-era tenant farmer and union advocate from Arkansas renowned for his
politically charged songs and poetry.

This place is AMAZING!, They have even replicated Ernest Hemingway’s Studio.

During the 1930s A barn was converted into a studio to give Hemingway privacy for writing.
Portions of one of his most famous novels, A Farewell to Arms, and several short stories were written in this studio.

Moving along, We came across Country Music Singer Johnny Cash’s boyhood home in Dyess Circle.

This is a recreation of The Cash family home in Dyess Arkansas as it was during the 1940s.

Check out the the rest of this town. There’s a Pop-shop, Cinema, & other colony display homes here, It’s like a step back
in time.

Something I found interesting was that The University actually owns Mr.Cash’s childhood home & The Dyess Circle Community;

 Exploring a bit more we come across a piece of Antique Southern Beauty.

A scale model of The Lakeport Plantation House in Lake Village, Arkansas.

This palatial estate is One of Arkansas’ premiere historic structures.
Lakeport is the only remaining Arkansas plantation home set on the Mississippi River.
It was built in 1859 for Lycurgus and Lydia Taylor Johnson, Who were part of a political dynasty that extended from
Virginia to Kentucky to Arkansas.

Jump on the Horse & Carriage awaiting you for a tour around the estate with cotton fields.

Opposite of The Lakeport Mansion are tour boats and rafts.
The Raft will take you to the tragic sunken town of Napoleon.

Just stand up when destination reaches its point and walk off the pier to find this RL Historic replica underwater.
There are plenty of signs around to tell you the story of what happened and when.

If You take the row Boat, You will then tour a serene swamp, great for photos.

There is also a wooden shack complete with rocking chairs on the porch to hang out.

Solelua Strolls

Ahhh The warmer weather is finally here!,
It’s always summer in SL, but the weather on the outside seems to influence or enhance our experiences inside SL too.

So Since it was warm outside we decided on exploring beaches for the day in SL.

Hubby surprised me with a gift. He sent me this super cute light n airy dress, It was perfect for a stroll on the beach.

I so enjoyed this beach, very quiet, Romantic & Secluded.

Later in the summer they will convert this beach as a surf & wave park, so it is definitely worth the visit.
You can rez in a small section near the water.

Just drop any pose you like and simply move them in place where you’d want to snap pics like we have.
