SL Destinations: Forest in Spring

Hello All
It is near Spring, and daydreams are looking forward to change of scenery, change of clothes, change of how and where we
spend our leisure. I know most will agree, After the long Winter months we are ready for said change.

Most may be thinking ahead to Summer and a nice hot beach somewhere, Or perhaps like me… a happy medium, cool but not
COLD.
…Maybe a place where you can enjoy the sights and sounds of nature.
The comfortable mist and fresh smells ..of Earth, of Trees…of Grass.
Until the last of the snow melts or the freezing rain ceases, We can immerse ourselves in Second Life and get a sample of
whats to come while waiting for Mother Nature to gracefully move on to the next season in RL.

There are many Forest and Parks in Second Life, Choosing just one to blog about was a challenge,
So We will just list some of  the photogenic places for you to check out.
Since Nature inspired this post, We Transformed our avatars into Dryad Tree Spirits and set the pics to words.

SL Destinations: New Toulouse Bayou

Bonjou! Konmen to yê? (Hello!, How are you?)

Today we bring you a bit of early 20th Century Americana.

A wee bit of Louisiana flava called New Toulouse. This region contains 2 sims, One is Urban and the other is Rural.

 

The city is modeled after New Orleans, and is bustling with Voudoun shops, Jazz clubs, Processions, Art & Cuisine, just
like the real thing.
The country or Bayou is where We settled, located on the 2nd sim, and we literally haunted it for days lol.

 

We really did enjoy the feel of this Swamp settlement.

 

Natural beauty filled this entire sim., From the birds & fauna native to this landscape, to the reptilian mascots that
occupied the waters.

The time period they emulate here is b’twix 1920-1925’s rural, When it was pure and simple country living.
Although Louisiana is very diverse, southern LA had 2 larger groups, Cajun & Creole.
Cajuns are French colonists who developed their own distinct lifestyle in the swamps and surrounding areas of South
Louisiana. Intermixed in these colonies were the Creole. Creole can mean anything from individuals born in New Orleans with
French and Spanish ancestry to those who descended from African/Caribbean/French/Spanish heritage.

It was a pleasant surprise to see them keep it authentic to the way folks would’ve Built Homes & Businesses, or decorated
their yards and houses.

 

We recognized African influences in the decor, no doubt brought by the freedom folks as they settled in communities.
I was tickled over The bottle tree that I have known through my own Geechi/Gullah heritage.

This custom originated in Africa., People believed that bad spirits could be captured in a bottle.
Legend had it that empty glass bottles placed outside, but near, the home could capture roving (usually evil) spirits at
night, and the spirit would be destroyed the next day in the sunshine. One could then cork the bottles and throw them into
the river to wash away the evil spirits.

Of course as time goes on meanings fade.
Not all Folk still believe in such things but the gesture of displaying old customs reminds us of whence we came.

Alot of  decor also showed signs of Christianity or Voudoun beliefs

 

This sim is very fascinating, do check out the library and other informative areas to learn more.

SL Destinations: Notre Dame Cathedral

Welcome Explorers & Photog Enthusiasts!,

In today’s post we head off to a very tranquil location, Notre Dame Cathedral.

Notre Dame Cathedral is a quiet and peaceful area to sit, relax or meditate.

Bold architecture, statues and candle lit pools make this a perfect spot to snap pictures.

Take in the beautiful surroundings while exploring the gardens, woodland and smaller buildings.

Although Roman Catholic in nature, the Sim is presented as a retreat for everyone on the grid and should be viewed as an artistic representation as much as a spiritual venue.

Greetings Explorers,

In today’s post we take you to the colorful and surreal Banana island nicknamed Pangloss.

This Pink world is inspired by infra-red military photography and the dreams of Bowie Lana Zeplin the Sim creator.

Climb ladders into the sky and take in the view on the backs of giant flying turtles.

Winding tunnels lead to hidden caves where gold plants and flowers make a stark contrast to the pink world outside.

Flying fish, brightly colored birds and butterflies will stir your imagination.

Pangloss Opens officially this weekend and we hope you will enjoy relaxing in the pergola or at the piano as much as we did.

SL Destinations: Autumn Equinox

Solstice Tidings One & All!,

This post is about one of our mutually favorite times of the year, Fall.

September 22-23, marks the Autumn Solstice., It’s the closure of summer, The reap of harvests, Enjoyment of colors on
changing leaves, And preparation of oneself both physically and mentally for the colder months ahead.

 

This change is celebrated by many different cultures all over the world in several ways.
In the U.K. for example where Revan is from, People visit the World Famous site called Stonehedge.

Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument in Wiltshire, England.
It is generally accepted that Stonehenge was an ancient spiritual centre, and many people congregate to welcome the sun and
the new seasons.

Revan and I dressed in manner and explored SL in search for nostalgic & picturesque Fall sims.

The photo’s in this post came from 4 of the sims we enjoyed.LM’s are included below.
**SL’s Stonehedge, A cute little village on a sim called Fable, A gorgeous sim called the Kingdom of Alurel, and We had
a ball dancing to Medieval Flutes at The Renaissance Faire Isle.**

I also wrote a small poem about the Event. 🙂

 

A Season of Mellow has been ushered in.
Like an orchestra, Autumn’s song begins.

Nature’s Crescendo starts to build
Welcoming her song are those of guild.

Woodsman, Farmers, Gatherers of like.
Meeting on Meadow, travel by Pike.

Some may view this all as a Pagan’s delight,
But it is just respect of impending dark while giving thanks to sunlight.

Celebratory Feasts, Dancing in Cheer.
It is Autumnal Equinox and finally here.

SL Destinations: Seven Veils

Welcome Explorers,

In our latest adventure we find ourselves at the beautiful sim of Seven Veils.

Seven Veils is an immersive fantasy environment, set in lush vegetation,

Here the Woodlands flourish with Secret Coves, Castles and Vaulted Caverns.

Eire Statues and Guardians line the many flower laden glades and walkways.

While this is a superb spot for picture taking and relaxing,  There is also a puzzle game to play around the sim.

 

The Garden Game is a clue-based puzzle that incorporates gathering and logic.

Your goal is to seek the seven Guardians and their Artifacts to collect clues and solve the current puzzle round.

The objective is discovering which Guardian committed which sin and what penance they suffered for their actions.

 

A Romanesque plaza with fountains, pool and performance area makes a perfect place to sit and take in the colourful surroundings.
